Steelers Hire Richard Mann as Receivers Coach

Mike Tomlin did not wait long to replace recently departed Scotty Montgomery as his wide receivers coach. Early today word leaked that he was interviewing Aliquippa native Richard Mann for the vacancy, and as the afternoon marched into the evening, the news broke that Mann had been hired for the job.

Richard Mann has been coaching in the NFL for over 3 decades. In fact, he’s been around long enough to have been an assistant for the Baltimore Colts, the Baltimore Ravens and the pre-99 Cleveland Browns. Mann has also coached with the Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Jets.

Perhaps most importantly, he also served on Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden’s staffs down in Tampa Bay, where he coached opposite Mike Tomlin.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that one spot remains on Mike Tomlin’s staff, that formerly earmarked for an assistant special teams head coach. Tomlin could hire and assistant to work with newly hired special teams coach Danny Smith or use the extra spot at another area.
