Steelers have 2.4 Million in Salary Cap Room After Signing Whimper

After resigning Guy Whimper, the Steelers now have 2.4 million dollars available under the salary cap. That means that the Steelers oculd likely still reach an agreement with Jerricho Cotchery, Lance Moore or James Starks, who will also visit, but most likely only 1 out of the 3.

That money will likely to go signing the players the Steelers pick in the 2014 NFL Draft (with the NFL’s new rookie salary cap, signing a rookie class takes around 5 million dollars.)

  • Signing transition player designee Jason Worilds to a long term deal would free up cap space, which would be the healthiest move the Steelers could make.

They could extend Ben Roethlisberger’s contract or restructure it yet again, the former move which the Steelers want to do but not now, the later move which they wish to avoid. Or another veteran such as Lawrence Timmons could restructure his contract, a move which the Steelers likely wish to avoid.
