Yesterday, Steel Curtain Rising began its annual Steelers Free Agent Focus. However, in some ways the Pittsburgh Steelers have already beaten us to the punch.
As mentioned yesterday, the Steelers 2015 off season promises to be a time where the team says goodbye to Super Bowl veterans. Steelers Nation is accustomed to this, even if we’ve yet to “acquire the taste.”
- But there’s one veteran of the Steelers Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII squads who is not going anywhere.
Ah, Ben Roethlisberger, you say. Well, yes, Ben isn’t going anywhere, but that’s not who we’re talking about. No, there’s another veteran the Steelers have locked down, and it has nothing to do with the since denied report on Steelers Gab that James Harrison will be staying it Pittsburgh.
- Last week the Steelers inked long snapper Greg Warren to a new deal.
Greg Warren is hardly a household name in Steelers Nation. One can imagine that he would draw relatively short line at an autograph show. But Warren has been with the Steelers since 2005 and since then he’s had one thing to do, and he’s done it well.
For the record, Warren also has 1 solo tackle and 7 assisted tackles during his time in Pittsburgh. And while you don’t want to see your long snapper making tackles on special teams any more than you want to see your punter or kicker doing it, Warren isn’t afraid of making contact.
- His only special teams solo tackle came in 2014, in the Steelers loss to Tampa.
Suffice to say, its good to see that Warren will be staying in Steelers Nation.
