Steelers Sign Tobais Palmer and 3 Others to Futures Contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued to fill out their 2016 off season roster by signing two wide receivers and two cornerbacks to futures contracts.

Of the quartet, only is wide receivers Tobais Palmer has NFL experience, having spent time during the 2013 season on the rosters of the Jacksonville Jaguars and San Diego Chargers. In 2014, Palmer spent time on the roster of the Buffalo Bills, but appears to have been out of football in 2015. While Palmer has appeared in on NFL game, he did not have a catch or a ball thrown his way.

  • Tobais Palmer played his college ball at NC State.

Joining Tobias Palmer at wide receiver is Issac Blakeney, who played in the ACC as a junior and a senior for the Duke. Issac Blakeney appeared in 25 games for the Blue Devils and caught 66 passes for 803 yards and 11 touchdowns. For the record, Blakeney stands at 6’6”and weighs 250 pounds, giving Ben Roethlisberger or more likely Landry Jones a tall target for work in Steelers OTA’s.

Cornerback Montell Garner played in college for South Alabama during his Junior and Senior years, and was credited with 89 tackles, 1 sack, 5 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. Garner will compete for a roster spot, or more likely a place on the Steelers practice squad with Al-hajj Shabazz. Shabazz played at Penn West Chester.
